A kilted piper greeted clergy and delegates as they gathered Friday, Nov. 14, at dusk for worship at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Fort Worth. The day was the 230th anniversary of the consecration of Samuel Seabury, the first American bishop, in a chapel in Aberdeen, Scotland. Our assisting bishop, the Rt. Rev. William Wantland, preached a heartfelt sermon on Seabury’s life and witness, as well as the charge laid on all Christians to consider their lives an examination that will be graded in heaven.
A long slate of candidates for elective office awaited the voting members on the following morning during the business meeting at the Will Rogers Memorial Center.

Fr. Hannex Kamenyah, evangelism officer of the Diocese of Northern Malawi, gave a good-humored report on his visit to the diocese (to study the Alpha Course) and all that has happened to him here since August – including a slight expansion of his waistline.
Fr. Scott Wilson used the convention’s theme, Rejoice in the Lord Always, in a rousing talk on the TELET course, which trains lay people to share their faith. Youth Animator Megan Pearce, the newest member of the Bishop’s staff, spoke about her vision for working with parishes on building youth ministry. Our campus chaplains reported on the activity among students at TCU, UTA, Baylor University and Texas A&M.
Clergy and delegates passed a $1.75 million balanced budget and assessment schedule for ministry in 2015.
The meeting concluded with courtesy resolutions, including a tribute to the Bishop and Donna Iker, who have labored together in service to the Lord for more than four decades. Among other expressions of greeting and thanks, the convention remembered Dr. Martha Pope and Archbishop Foley Beach.
