The 35th Annual Diocesan Convention

   Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3 & 4, 2017

Memo to Clergy and Delegates – Sept. 26

Our 35th Annual Convention is getting nearer!

We are pleased to announce that the Rt. Rev. Keith Ackerman will be our preacher on Friday, Nov. 3, at the
opening Eucharist. This will be at 5 p.m. at St. Vincent’s Cathedral. All clergy are to vest and process at this service in
cassock, surplice, and white stole.

A reception and dinner follow at the Hurst Conference Center. This year’s menu is an Italian buffet with a choice of entrees. NOTE that garage parking is free at the Conference Center. Your car may be towed if you use the adjoining lots, so please, use the garage both Friday and Saturday!

If you need hotel accommodations, remember that the group rate deadline is Friday, Oct. 6.

The schedule for Saturday, Nov. 4, is in the memo below.

Deanery Meetings begin October 5. See below for details. The calendar is at the bottom of this page. NOTE that the proposed 2018 budget and assessment documents have not yet been approved and adopted by the Executive Council. They will be available on these pages beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 3. If you are unsure of your congregation’s deanery, please see this listing.

Now is the time to make meal reservations for Convention. You may do this online or use the PDF form provided.

Concerning the business of the Convention:

  • There is a large slate of nominees for elective office, since this is the year we will elect delegates to the 2019 ACNA Assembly. Please prayerfully consider the candidates for each office. (Some candidate information may be incomplete. Please re-check the roster for updates in October.)

  • The Constitution and Canons Committee has recommended an amendment to Article 12 of the Constitution. If adopted this year, the amendment must be ratified by next year’s Convention before it is finally adopted.

  • Proposed 2018 Budget and Assessment documents are now available. Please print copies for your reference at your Deanery Meeting, then retain them for reference at the Convention.

  • No proposed Resolutions have been received at this time. Any late resolutions are governed by the Standing Rules of Procedure.

Clergy, you are asked to submit your Necrology Report not later than Monday, Oct 23.

See you at the Convention!

At this time you are encouraged to nominate candidates for elective office (see below) and to submit any proposed resolutions. You may also wish to make a hotel reservation for the night of Nov. 3.

A number of elected positions will be filled at this year's convention, since it is time to elect representatives to future provincial gatherings.

  • Standing Committee  ~  1 Clerical and 1 Lay member
  • Ecclesiastical Court  ~  1 Clerical and 1 Lay member
  • Extra-Diocesan Synods  ~  see list

All nomination forms and proposed resolutions for consideration by the Convention are due by Friday, Sept. 1. Please consult Articles 18 and 19 regarding changes to the diocesan Constitution or Canons. Forms are linked above.  Submit completed forms and supporting material to Gala Harvey (e-mail to gharvey[at]fwepiscopal.org or fax to 817-244-3363) at the Diocesan Center.

Resolutions will be reviewed by the Resolutions Committee and published no later than twenty (20) days before the opening of the Convention. (Any resolution which deals with matters arising after Sept. 1 is exempt from this requirement.) All other resolutions submitted after Sept. 1 are governed by Rule 27 of the Standing Rules of Procedure.

As a representative of your parish, it is important that you attend your Deanery Meeting in October. This will be your opportunity to review the proposed 2018 budget and assessments and any resolutions or proposed changes to the Constitution and Canons that may be presented. A calendar of Deanery Meeting dates is below. It may be helpful, too, to review Canon 35.

You are encouraged to participate in the process of nominating qualified persons to represent your Deanery on the Executive Council. A list of openings may be found by clicking the Elections button above. Please forward the Executive Council Nomination Form to your Dean at least one week prior to the meeting.

Elected delegates have seat, voice, and vote in deanery meetings. Alternates should make every effort to attend the Deanery Meetings as well, since they may be called upon to serve in place of an elected Delegate. Visitors do not have voice or vote.

Clergy, you are asked to submit your Necrology Report not later than Monday, Oct 23.

The Diocesan Staff and Arrangements Committee at the Cathedral look forward to seeing you at Convention!
