The 37th Annual Diocesan Convention
Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 & 16, 2019 • Granbury, Texas
Welcome once again! This update includes all the information you will need until you arrive ready for the Convention on Friday, Nov. 15.
Bishop Iker is very pleased to announce that Bishop Coadjutor Ryan Reed will be our preacher at Friday’s Convention Eucharist. In addition, we will welcome the Most Rev. Robert Duncan, founding Archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America, to be our special guest speaker at Friday’s dinner. This dinner will be a special celebration and time to honor Bishop Iker as he approaches his retirement at the end of the year.
Today the Nominations Committee is releasing its slate of candidates for elective office, and the Executive Council is offering its proposed 2020 diocesan budget and assessment tables. A draft agenda for the Convention’s business meeting on Saturday, Nov 16, is also available. There have been no canonical changes or resolutions submitted for the Convention’s consideration this year.
October is the month for Deanery Meetings, so be sure not to miss yours. (Scroll down this page for a reminder of the date and place where you will meet.) Alternate delegates should try to attend the meeting, since they may be asked to attend the Convention if an elected delegate is not able to do so.
Be sure to print a copy of the budget documents to have with you for reference at the Deanery meeting. You may also wish to have a printed copy of the slate of nominees for elective office.
At this time you are encouraged to
The opening Eucharist of our 37th Annual Diocesan Convention will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3600 Fall Creek Highway, Granbury. Following the service, there will be a reception and retirement dinner honoring Bishop Iker at the Granbury Conference Center. Our convention theme this year is taken from 1 Timothy: “To God Be Honor and Glory.”
The schedule of events on Saturday, Nov. 16, is as follows:
The following positions will be filled by election at this year’s Convention:
Forms are below. All nomination forms and proposed resolutions for consideration by the Convention are due by Wednesday, Sept. 18. Please consult Articles 18 and 19 regarding changes to the diocesan Constitution or Canons. Submit completed forms and supporting material according to the instructions on the form.
Resolutions submitted by Sept. 18 will be reviewed by the Resolutions Committee and published no later than twenty (20) days before the opening of the Convention. (Any resolution which shows on its face that it deals with matters arising after the deadline date shall be exempt from this requirement.) Any resolutions submitted after Sept. 18 are governed by Rule 27 of the Standing Rules of Procedure.
As a representative of your parish, it is important that you attend your Pre-Convention Deanery Meeting in October. This will be your opportunity to review the proposed 2020 budget and assessments and discuss any resolutions or proposed changes to the Constitution and Canons that may be presented.
Elected delegates have seat, voice, and vote in Deanery Meetings. Alternates should make every effort to attend as well, since they may be called upon to serve in place of an elected delegate. Visitors do not have voice or vote. A calendar of Deanery Meeting dates is below. It may be helpful, too, to review Canon 35.
You are encouraged to participate in the process of nominating qualified persons to represent your Deanery on the Executive Council. Scroll down to see a list of openings. Please use the Executive Council Nomination Form and submit it to your Dean at least one week prior to your Deanery's meeting date.
You may nominate yourself for any open position.
Clergy, you are asked to submit your Necrology Report no later than Friday, Nov. 1.
We look forward to seeing you at Convention!
At this time you are encouraged to nominate candidates for elective office and to submit any proposed resolutions to the Secretary of Convention. Please note the date of your Deanery Meeting below. You may also wish to make a hotel reservation for Nov. 15.
